Our History
Buena Vista is the name of at least three Wisconsin communities, with the most historically significant being the former village in Portage County, named after a battle, which was destroyed by a tornado in 1863. Another Buena Vista in Richland County was settled in the mid-1840s, while a third in Columbia County was a bustling hops and pottery center that declined when the railroad bypassed it.
Buena Vista (Richland County)
Settlement: The first settlers, brothers Robert and William McCloud, arrived from Ohio in the fall of 1845, locating farms along Bear Creek.
Early Life: The McClouds, along with their families, moved to their new homes in the spring of 1846.
