Dog License

Richland County requires all dogs within the county to be licensed EVERY YEAR.

Annual Dog Licenses need to be obtained in the Town of Buena Vista Treasurer’s Office by April 1 of each year.

To obtain a Dog License for each of your dogs:

  1. You must provide a copy of your Rabies Vaccination certificate from
    the Veterinarian for each dog you are seeking a license for with the rabies tag
    number dog’s name. You will need to send a copy of the application with the
    following information:

    • Owner’s name, address, and phone number
    • Veterinarian or Clinic’s name
    • Dog’s name, breed and color.
    • Rabies tag number, date of shot, and expiration date
    • Mark the status of your dog, if intact or fixed.
  1. You must include the payment for each license requested
  • $3 for each dog that is spayed/neutered, OR
  • $8 for each dog that is not spayed/neutered.

Late fees. The collecting official shall assess and collect a late fee of $5 from every owner of a
dog 5 months of age or over, if the owner failed to obtain a license prior to April 1 of each year,
or within 30 days of acquiring ownership of a licensable dog or if the owner failed to obtain a
license on or before the dog reached licensable age. All late fees received or collected shall be
paid into the local treasury as revenue of the town, village or city in which the license was
issued. The governing body of any county, town, village or city may, when setting the amount of
the tax, provide that any person purchasing a dog license for a dog 5 months of age or over
after April 1 shall pay an additional late fee.
